Kobeigane Divisional Secretariat area is one of four Divisional Secretarial areas, belongs to Nikaweratiya Electoral Division in Kurunegala District in North western Province of Sri Lanka.It consists of only one Korale named as "Baladora Korale".
Kobeigane Divisional Secretariat area is situated adjacent to Magalle lake built by king Mahasen, during Anuradhapura period, who once ruled the ancient Panduwasnuwara kingdom and the irrigation system created by King Parakramabahu the 1st ,during Polonnaruwa period.The irrigation system consisting of 229 small lakes and 05 anicuts. Scattered irrigation system within the area of Kobeigane Division provides evidences the said division has been occupied by people who engaged in Agriculture sector as their main source of living from ancient ruling times of royal kings.
As the division belongs to the intermediate zone in terms of climatic conditions, dry zonal climatic characteristics are prevalent and the mean temperature is approximately 26 C0. Mean rainfall is 93.77mm in North- East monsoon season whearas i is 30.35mm in south - wes monsoon season.
The total land area of the Division is approximately 48.07 in squre miles and total population is 40,179. That is divided in to males and females, numerically 19,470 and 20,709 respectively.87.171 of total population is Buddhists and Sinhalese community is 35,740 in number, while Muslim community is 4,365. Muslims predominently live in Pannawa and Welpothuwewa Grama Niladhari divisions. Citizens belong to other nationalities and religions are living in small numbers in these Grama Niladhari divisions.
At present their major living pattern is based on Agriculture, whereas their prominent Agricultural cultivation is paddy farming. The major supplimentary mode of income of the people living in this area are additinal crop cultivation based mainly on vegetable cultuvation and animal husbandury. 60% of consuming lands is being allocated for coconut cultivation whereas 15% is for additional crop cultivation.
This division is consisting of 35 grama niladhari divisions which is the smallest administrative unit and 138 villages.These 35 Grama Niladhari divisions are divided into 3 samurdhi divisions.
The main road running through the division is the road which combines Nugawela junction of Kurunegala - Chilaw road and Withikuliya junction of Kurunegala - Puttalam road (A-10) which is 12.5km in length.The road extends begininning from the center of Kobeigane city towards Padeniya, combines Kobeigane city to the Kurunegala - Puttalam road (A-10).Other roads situated within the division which are 342 in number, are connected to the Kobeigane city through this main road.
The government and non government organizations mainly situated within the division which contribute to the development and welfare of the people living in the division are Divisional Secretariat, Pradeshiya Sabha, Agrarian center, People's bank, Bank of Ceylon, Main post office and sub post offices, District hospital, Primary Care Unit in Boraluwewa, Central Dispensary of Ayurvedic Medicine, Sri Lanka Police, and Divisional Educational office.
Additionally co-operative society which is the major institute satisfies consuming and financial necessities of people living in the area, consists of 16 regional offices, a co-operative super market and 11 rural branches distributed whithin the division.
When consider the industrial section, industries based on coconut materials can be noticed in considerable amount.Twisting ropes, cutting are predominent among these.Additionally crushing cashew nuts, and bricks industry etc. can be observed in several Grama Niladhari divisions.
More over the traditional industries which are at extinction such as jewellery productions, ironworks, carpentary are distributed in Grama Niladhari division evenly.
It is the responsibility of Kobeigane Divisional Secretariat which is the centralized administrative center to efficiently manage the living status of Kobeigane divisional area consisting of aforementioned resources.
